Down Dog Rescue is partially based in Queen Anne. They rescue dogs in WA who are in homes where they are no longer cared for or no longer wanted. They also bring dogs from CA who are otherwise likely to be euthanized. Because they do not have a shelter, they rely on foster homes.
If you have ever been interested in fostering, this is a great group to foster dogs through. They provide high quality food and vet care for dogs in foster and work hard to find the best homes for each dog. Being a foster parent can be hard work and you will need to be patient and able to cope with potty training, chewing and other issues that a dog who has never been given love and training may have. If fostering is too much, they can always use your help with transportation.
And of course if you are interested in adopting you should check them out too!
They always appreciate monetary donations, all of which go to care for their rescue pups, and most of which are used to pay medical fees for their rescue pups. And if you happen to have a harness laying around that you don’t use, they will really appreciate it as a donation!
COLA (Citizens for Off Leash Areas) is a non-profit organization who works tirelessly to help keep Seattle friendly. They were the reason Seattle had its first park built and have continued to fight for off leash areas (OLAs).
Did you know that all of the dog parks in Seattle are run by volunteers? COLA assigns a Park Steward to each park to make sure that potty bags, dog dishes and other items are available as well as organize clean-up parties of volunteers to do the exhausting work of moving dirt and laying new bark. If you use a particular park often, see if you can find their facebook page to keep up to date with park news, and consider showing up to help maintain the park. Even an hour of labor can make a huge difference.
The Dog SQAD will be working with COLA to get some legal space for our community’s dogs to play off leash.
